Position overview

Support long-term utility substation projects through P&C testing, relay systems, outage support, troubleshooting, and substation commissioning. Candidates are placed at the appropriate level based on relay knowledge, P&C testing experience, and independent field capability.

This is a field-based P&C role focused on safely testing and verifying protection and control systems before equipment is placed into service.

Key responsibilities

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and P&C diagrams.
  • Perform relay testing, functional testing, and RTS testing.
  • Work with SEL and electromechanical relays.
  • Apply and verify relay settings provided by engineering and design teams.
  • Properly identify and isolate circuits for testing.
  • Support outage planning, sequencing, and field coordination.
  • Support retrofit and modernization work including SCADA updates, breaker replacements, transformer upgrades, and substation modifications.
  • Work with CTs, PTs, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, transformers, and other substation equipment.
  • Coordinate with Commissioning Engineers, wiremen, and project personnel during field execution.

Key qualifications

  • Hands-on P&C testing experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with SEL and electromechanical relays.
  • Knowledge of isolation procedures and outage sequencing.
  • Experience with CTs, PTs, breakers, disconnects, transformers, and related substation equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely in energized substation environments.
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime.
