Senior Accountant

Position overview

Lead close, reporting, fixed asset, and production accounting for multinational oil and gas or energy operations while partnering with FP&A, joint venture accounting, and operations teams.

This role supports accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting across complex, high-value energy operations, joint ventures, and capital projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead full-cycle month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and CIP/WIP tracking.
  • Perform volumetric production booking and reconciliation for oil and gas commodity volumes, including cost allocation and revenue recognition.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including P&L and balance sheet reporting.
  • Apply US GAAP and IFRS standards, including ASC 606 / IFRS 15 revenue recognition and percentage-of-completion accounting.
  • Support joint venture accounting, including JIB, cash calls, and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Maintain and strengthen SOX-compliant internal controls and support internal and external audit requests.
  • Conduct variance analysis and financial performance reporting to support business decisions.
  • Manage CapEx / OpEx accounting and support capital planning, including AFE tracking.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams during system transitions, acquisitions, and process improvement initiatives.

Key qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in oil and gas, energy, or another multinational industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP; IFRS experience strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with fixed asset and CIP/WIP accounting.
  • Experience with month-end/year-end close, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience supporting SOX compliance and internal/external audits.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems such as SAP, Infor SyteLine, Lawson, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and macros.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Schedule, travel & compensation

  • Full-time position based in Houston, Texas.
  • Work closely with operations, FP&A, joint venture accounting, and international teams.
  • Support complex accounting needs across month-end, year-end, capital planning, and audit cycles.

Project scope

  • Multinational oil and gas or energy operations.
  • Volumetric production accounting and commodity-volume reconciliation.
  • Joint venture and joint interest billing (JIB) accounting.
  • Capital project accounting, including AFE tracking.
  • US GAAP, IFRS, ASC 606 / IFRS 15, and ASC 842 exposure.
  • Multi-state and multi-country accounting requirements.
  • Intercompany transactions for international subsidiaries.
  • Reporting and BI tools such as Power BI.
